Q: What is burning and dodging?

A: Burning and dodging refer to lightening and darkening general areas of a photographic print. Burning and dodging are done while the print is being exposed.

Burning is when you add light to an area of a print to darken that area.

Dodging is when you hold back light from an area of a print to lighten that area.
