ABOUT PROPORTIONS

Q: If I want to make a full paper 8x10 print from a 35 mm negative, how much will it crop?

A: A full frame image from a 35mm negative would print 8x12 with no cropping. So if you want a full paper 8x10 print you would be cropping 2 inches from the full frame 8x12. If you can't visualize this you might want to buy a cropping guide. They are available at most photo supplies stores.

Another rule of thumb when using a contact sheet to make cropping instructions, is to crop approximately two sprocket holes to fit the proportions of an 8 x 10 piece of paper.
