An Overview of Black & White Films
by
Tom Polek

This page is an overview of the most popular black and white films on the market today. There are many more black & white films available but this page shows the most common ones. Because of the changes in the photographic industry some of these films have been discontinued.

We also wanted to use this tips page to distinguish between
True Black & White film and C-41 processed B&W film.

True B&W films are rolls of film that are processed in traditional B&W chemicals. Film that is processed in C-41 chemicals (color chemicals) is not considered a true black and white film. C-41 processed films are basically color film with no color.

The following is a list of the most commonly used B&W films. We process only True B&W films in our lab, but we can print from all types of film, color as well as black & white.
